Each distiller keeps & book recording the daily distillation and is produced on demand. I sign the book and receive a "Chopped" copy of the records made since my previous visit. I attach a list showing the reported distillation of each distillery together with the revenue per diem. Each distiller being licensed to sell in smaller quantities than two gallons it is impossible to check the sales against the reported distilla- tions, but I think the various reports are nearly correct. possible check I have taken stock in each distillery.

I commenced making weekly collections of dues payable but as they were for such small amounts and all paid in subsidiary coinage I decided with your approval to collect dues once a man. By this scheme I can demand Hongkong Bank-Note and so save loss

on sub-coin.

The Sun Hing Loong is the largest distillery in the New Territory having five stills and distilling about 40 jars per day. The major part of the produce is forwarded to Hongkong by junk and duty paid there. The firm sell a small quantity of Liu Pun to licensed sellers in Un Long Market. The duty paid on last month's sales was only $1.31 so I have not included the firm in my attached list.

The Fun Li distillery at 38 Toi Shan has the largest retail business in my district and distils 80 catties of Sheung Fa per day.

With the exception of San Tin Ordinance is working smoothly. The trouble in San Tin District is that the maaters of three licensed wine and spirite shops in Sun Tin Village purchase their wine from the Kong Shang distillery at Sham Chun and so far have paid no duty on it. 1 am however making inquiries as to the amounts imported and propose on completion of enquiries to demand
